This type of research is descriptive and qualitative. The data was obtained from questionnaires via google from 35 research subjects, namely PKPBI students of the Informatics Engineering of UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang class. They studied Listening and Speaking skills in the third semester of the 2021/2022 academic year. The data is processed using a Likert scale and is equipped with tables and pie charts. The result showed that (1) the use of video calls was easily used as well as accessible from the WhatsApp application, (2) the use of video calls was easier to use during practice and get corrections from friends and lecturers than other platforms, such as G-meet and zoom, and (3) video calls were more effectively used in the practice of speaking with a total number of a limited number of students while google meet is effectively used in the practice of group speaking in large groups/one class in a longer duration of time.

Keywords: WhatsApp video calls, google meet, zoom & Intensive English class

Dian Arsitades Wiranegara A’i Mulyani Az Zahra Copyright (c) 2023 ELITE JOURNAL https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/ 2023-12-14 2023-12-14 5 4 755 780 Students’ Perception on Watching Fantasy Films to Improve Speaking Skills https://www.elitejournal.org/index.php/ELITE/article/view/207

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this Research to investigate if English speaking skills of the students can be improved by watching fantasy films. The research method used is descriptive quantitative, for this research participation is all faculties of the As-Syafi'iyah Islamic University. Most of the Indonesian diaspora are migrants consisting of various professions. Some of them settled and changed their nationality, some of them are descendants, but there are also those who still retain Indonesian citizenship and contribute greatly to this country as we are familiar with PMI (Indonesian Migrant Workers). A descriptive qualitative approach was used in this study with data collection techniques in the form of literature studies through reference relevant to problems, government policies and case studies related to the development of the Indonesian Diaspora. The theory used is Intercultural Communication by looking at the Diaspora phase in involving all cultural structures in communication actions as part of the adaptation process. In the end it can be concluded that the contribution made by the diaspora is also quite large as an example is PMI (Indonesian Migrant Workers). The value of remittances or money transfers for migrant workers from PMI reaches IDR 130 trillion per year for Indonesia. The amount which even exceeds the contribution of the tourism sector and taxes from the mining sector, shows that the Diaspora's contribution to this country is very large and in the cultural communication that is carried out, the Indonesian Diaspora has gone through all phases of adaptation so that it will be easier to deliver Indonesia's potential to the international world. through acts of communication carried out

Keywords: Intercultural Communication, Diaspora, Assets, Culture

Novy Khusnul Khotimah Dessy Kushardiyanti Copyright (c) 2023 ELITE JOURNAL https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/ 2023-12-14 2023-12-14 5 4 803 818 Implementing Various Interaction Patterns in Teaching English Skills https://www.elitejournal.org/index.php/ELITE/article/view/209

ABSTRACT

This study talked about interaction patterns in EFL teaching and learning context which aims to explore types of interaction patterns implemented by the teachers in teaching English skills.
